Birdwatching Antigua El Pilar
At the trail's lower entrance, hummingbird feeders await, attracting an array of species including the endemic Rufous Sabrewing and the Green-throated Mountain-gem. Rivoli's, White-eared, and Azure-crowned Hummingbirds, among others, also frequent these stations, offering enchanting displays of aerial prowess.
Various woodpeckers, such as the Northern Flicker and Golden-olive, along with migratory species like the Baltimore Oriole and Tennessee Warbler, enrich the wooded landscape. Delving into the scrubby undergrowth, one may encounter the White-eared Ground-Sparrow and Ruddy Foliage-gleaner among others, adding to the tapestry of life.
Venturing further into the forest reveals a highland bird community characterized by species like the Slate-throated Redstart and Golden-browed Warbler. With patience and luck, sightings of Highland Guans may grace the fortunate observer.
Descending along the dirt road provides opportunities to witness the Greater Pewee, Gray Silky-flycatcher, and nesting Black-capped Swallows. Hammond's Flycatchers are a common sight during the boreal winter, adding to the avian diversity
As the elevation changes, so too does the forest, transitioning into cloud forest territory. Here, woodcreepers and trogons abound, while mixed flocks of warblers and vireos roam through the foliage. The cloud forest is home to a diverse community of birds, including the Common Chlorospingus and the elusive Guatemalan Tyrannulet, enriching the forest's tapestry of life.
